We tend to develop habits at early ages by watching our parents, grandparents, other adults close to us and peers. Some of those habits can actually be good, but I would be willing to say, the biggest percentage are bad and can lead to sickness, disease and ultimately, death.
But I have also noticed that some of the bad habits people have are not considered bad in their mind.
I have decided to provide an extensive list of terrible habits in the lives of many people. I will tell you the habit and ways you can break it.
They are in no particular order, so be sure to read through the complete list.
Please share this post with all your family and friends. After all, if we educate people on the habits that could be detrimental to their health, maybe they will have the willpower to break and change those habits.
Terrible Habits You Need To Break #1: Chronic Snacking
Eating and eating just because you are bored, watching television or something like that is not a good thing. Even if the snacks you are eating are seemingly healthy, too much of a good thing can actually be bad. It can lead to weight gain, diabetes intestinal problems, and other issues.
Our suggestion is to find something else to do with your hands in these moments. Maybe you could start knitting, crocheting, or something like that. But most importantly, you just need to have willpower. A snack every once in a while is okay, but chronic snacking is not good.
Terrible Habits You Need To Break #2: Sitting For Hours
Okay, maybe it isn’t a habit per say, maybe it’s your job. It can be a habit if you are a television “junkie.” Either way, you need to realize that sitting for hours upon hours is bad for your health in many ways. The heart is especially affected by sitting for long periods.
If it is your job, I suggest you find ways to get out of the chair on a regular basis and move around. There are even standing desks that have been developed that may be a good investment.
If you are a television fanatic, try to find other activities and limit your television sit down time. If nothing else, put an exercise bike in front of the television.
Keep moving and keep your heart healthy and well.
Terrible Habits You Need To Break #3: Substituting Other Liquids For Water
Studies have shown that adult men should have about 13 cups of water per day and adult women, about 9 cups. But so many people assume they can substitute coffee, tea, milk, juice, beer, etc…
That is a terrible thought pattern.
While nearly all those items do have water in them, it’s not the same. You need to drink plenty of water; plain, ordinary water is required by your body.
Terrible Habits You Need To Break #4: Nail Biting
So many people have this terrible habit. It can lead to deformed nails, ingrown nails and it can actually create an infection in your gums.
Think about some of the items you touch and handle on a daily basis. And you are getting remnants of those things in your mouth.
A good way to break the habit is by chewing gum, keep your nails neatly groomed and if all else fails, put some type of “taste nasty” thing on your nails.
Terrible Habits You Need To Break #5: Sleeping Less Than You Should
I cannot count the number of people that think 6 hours of sleep is enough. They will say that they are different and are quite capable of managing for 6 hours. And they may seem to do great, but I would bet that their heart is saying different.
Every person should get 7 to 8 hours of sleep every 24 hours.
Studies have shown that people who do less sleep have higher rates of diabetes, obesity, and hypertension.
It is also helpful if you schedule consistent “go to bed” and “get out of bed” times. By doing so, you make it a habit; a good habit.
Terrible Habits You Need To Break #6: Smoking
In these days and times, most people who smoke know it is bad for them.
Quitting can be difficult, but there are many items and programs to help.
Be it cigars, pipes or cigarettes, it is high time you consider your health and give up that terrible habit.
Here are 2 links that may help you quit:
Terrible Habits You Need To Break #7: “Ramping Up” Exercise Routines Before Special Occasions
So your best friend is getting married or you are attending your spouse’s family reunion. Maybe it is something else, but you just want to look great. So you assume that you can “ramp up” your exercise routine…
Do 40 reps instead of the normal 20.
Run 8 miles instead of 5.
Add 1 hour to my usual 45-minute workout.
This is a perfect way to end up in the Doctor’s office or hospital.
It can also be so hard on you that you end up skipping your next routine. Go ahead and push yourself for a little extra, but I said a little… Don’t go overboard!
Terrible Habits You Need To Break #8: Skipping Breakfast
Whether you are on a mission to lose weight or you just find yourself swamped with work, skipping breakfast is a bad habit to justify either.
Just like what you were told when young probably, breakfast is an important meal. It will get your day started well and breakfast helps you think, focus and react in a more competent manner. So take that little bit of time and enjoy a wholesome breakfast daily.
Terrible Habits You Need To Break #9: Shopping
Is all shopping bad?
But some people are so addicted to shopping, they find themselves in financial binds.
Are you a person who still has tags on items you bought over 6 months ago? Do you go shopping the minute you get paid? Are your credit cards regularly “maxed out?”
You just may have a shopping addiction.
This is not an easy habit to break, but you should. Financial strains can be bad to your health, and also hard on your family’s health and well-being.
Seek a counselor.
Also, I have found that turning that habit into a make money instead of spend money habit can help immensely.
We can help with that part at iGalen. Start your own home based iGalen business helping people get healthier, and you can make good money with one of the best compensation plans in network marketing. You can see more about the iGalen business opportunity here.
Terrible Habits You Need To Break #10: Drinking Too Much Alcohol
I must admit that a cold beer, glass of wine or even a mixed drink can be refreshing after a long, hard day. But when that turns into a six pack, a bottle or 4 mixed drinks, you are probably doing your body harm, as well as killing some brain cells.
Keep in mind that most alcohol has a lot of sugar so it can lead to diabetes. Plus it can be hard on your liver.
By maintaining control and only having 2 beers, 2 small glasses of wine or 2 mixed drinks, you are staying in a much healthier zone. And, no matter how much, I suggest no driving.
Terrible Habits You Need To Break #11: Taking The Vitamin Instead Of Eating The Foods That give The Nutrient
I have heard some people say that they detest all vegetables that provide them with Vitamin A, so they will instead take it in pill form.
And I do agree with taking vitamins if you are not getting enough nutrients from your foods, but intentionally skipping foods and taking the pill instead is not wise.
Vitamins in pill form are harder for your body to absorb. Secondly, the vegetables supplying a particular Vitamin also supply other nutrients you are missing out on. Do you have pills for them all?
Now I know some may think that we are contradicting ourselves since iGalen manufactures and sells a supplement called Emulin. And I would happily tell you to eat properly to get your needed Emulin intake. But one of the problems is farming practices over the years.
You see, Emulin enters plants via the soil, and the soil has been depleted of many nutrients like Emulin.
So even if you are eating properly, you still may need to take supplements including Emulin to help manage carbs. Learn more about Emulin here.
I hope this list of bad habits helps you recognize and change… If you have any questions, feel free to ask them below.
And please share this post with your friends and family.
