For our health and well-being, we need to always be aware of another area that has extremes on both sides of the “opposite” scale.
We speak of pH levels. Any living thing made up of high percentages of water carries a pH level; the human body is over 70% water, so a pH level can be measured in us. That level can play a major role in our health.
What Is pH?
Without delving far into science and explaining this in terms that (hopefully) anyone reading this can understand, the “P” stands for “power” or “concentration” while the “H” stands for “hydrogen ion.” If a substance has a low hydrogen ion, it is considered to be acidic while high levels of hydrogen ions mean it is alkaline.
The scale that measures this is based on the number 14. A neutral substance that is considered neither acidic nor alkaline measures 7 on that scale. Pure water is on the neutral scale, and human blood should be very close to neutral.
Highly acidic items measure low on the pH scale. Gastric acid, which helps digest your food, should measure about 2 on the scale, thus making it acidic. Coca-Cola is also highly acidic and measures from 2 to 3 on the scale.
Alkaline items will measure a higher number. Lye, which is used to make soaps and cleaners, measures from 12 to 13; bleach measures around 12. These items are highly alkaline substances.
Thus begins our topic for today: how to keep your body’s pH levels balanced. Without proper balance, you may feel lethargic or unable to properly concentrate on the tasks you need to complete throughout the day.

Balance Your pH Levels Tip #1: See What Your Level Is
You cannot balance something if you do not know which way it is leaning. Therefore, the first key to balancing your personal pH level is to test them! To test your balance:
- Obtain pH test paper which is also known as litmus paper.
- In the morning after a full night of sleep, urinate in a paper cup and dip the paper into it or rinse your mouth with water, spit it out, put saliva onto a spoon, and dip the litmus paper in it.
- The paper will turn a different color which will correspond to a value on the color chart that came with the paper test kit.
- If the color represents a number below 7, that means you have an acidic pH level. If above 8, you are in the alkaline level.
A balanced pH should read between 6.5 and 7.5, making it neutral.
In most cases, people tend to lean toward the acidic level so, to balance, we need to alkalinize our systems.
Some of the bodily systems affected and the issues that may occur if your pH level is acidic are:
- Digestive issues

- The immune system

- The nervous system
- Urinary system
- Muscular system,
- and the reproductive system.

As mentioned above, we normally need to make our systems more alkaline. Here is a simple trick:
Each morning, pour a glass of water and add 2 tablespoons of ACV along with a squirt of lemon juice.
